  • We approach Mount Shuksan along the Shannon Ridge Trail from the south side of the mountain, winding through old-growth forest up through open alpine terrain. From there, we set up high camp next to the beautiful Sulphide Glacier.

The vistas from camp are breathtaking—mountain goats often make an appearance in the evening, and Mount Baker glows in the morning light to the west. Our climb follows the Sulphide Glacier up to the base of the summit pyramid, where a 600-foot Class 3-4 rock scramble along the central gully leads to the 9,131-foot summit. The descent involves rappelling and down-climbing back to the glacier. Throughout the expedition, our experienced guides provide instruction and support, equipping you with the skills needed for a safe and successful ascent.

    • Day 1 – Approach to High Camp
We’ll meet for gear checks and orientation before starting our hike from the trailhead. Our approach takes us through lush forest and subalpine meadows before emerging onto rugged alpine terrain. By afternoon, we’ll establish camp at the base of the Sulphide Glacier, where you’ll learn essential camp craft and prepare for the climb ahead.

    • Day 2 – Summit bid via Sulphide Glacier
We’ll rise before dawn and rope up for our summit push. The Sulphide Glacier provides a classic experience in glacier travel, gradually leading us toward the dramatic summit pyramid. From there, we’ll scramble engaging 3rd–4th class rock to reach the top, where breathtaking views of the Cascades await. With a 2:1 climber-to-guide ratio, you’ll receive personalized instruction and support every step of the way. We will then descend back to camp for a well-earned dinner and rest.

    • Day 3 – Descent to Trailhead
After a hearty breakfast, we’ll pack up camp and retrace our steps down the trail. By early afternoon, we’ll return to the trailhead and wrap up an unforgettable adventure on one of the most beautiful mountains in North America.

  • Mount Shuksan involves hiking, camping, glacier travel and low-grade alpine rock climbing.

Prior glacier experience on Mount Baker or Ruth is recommended. While prior rock experience is not required, it can set you up for success. If you have not climbed outdoors before, please consider taking a one day Rock Skills Course before this trip.
