Deep powder, steaming onsens, incredible food, and a welcoming mountain culture—Japan is a dream destination for backcountry skiers. Join Upward Transitions Institute for an unforgettable week exploring the legendary snowfall of Myoko, one of Japan's most renowned ski regions.
We will be joining a local Japanese certified ski guide, who knows this area best. She will help integrate meaningful cultural context with epic skiing.
We will be based in a traditional Japanese lodge that serves a traditional breakfast and has beautiful indoor and outdoor onsens (natural hot springs).
We'll spend our days chasing powder through a combination of lift-accessed backcountry terrain and ski resort laps, taking advantage of Japan's efficient lift systems to maximize our time skiing. Evenings are spent soaking in natural hot springs, enjoying local cuisine, and sharing stories from the day.
This trip blends adventure, cultural immersion, and mentorship in the supportive learning environment that defines every Upward Transitions Institute experience.

Receiving over 45-60 feet (14-18 meters) of snow annually, Myoko is famous for consistent storms, perfectly spaced glades, playful terrain, and remarkably stable tree skiing.
The region offers:
Lift-accessed backcountry with minimal approaches
Endless powder-filled tree skiing
Beautiful volcanic landscapes
Traditional Japanese villages
Natural onsens (hot springs)
Exceptional Japanese food and hospitality
Whether you're experiencing Japan for the first time or returning for another powder pilgrimage, Myoko offers an unforgettable combination of skiing and culture.
With the rising popularity of skiing in Japan, we are making a conscious decision to avoid more crowded areas. You will see most guided trips going to Haikaido. We like to do things a little differently around here.
